42 per cent of respondents however, said they didn’t know where to find the most beautiful beaches in Scotland - the new research from Sykes Cottages says. The Isle of Skye- famous for its cliffs, lochs and distinctive rock pinnacles - took the Scottish destination top spot in the UK poll with 12 per cent of the vote, followed by Orkney Islands (9 per cent) and the Shetland Islands (7 per cent). However, Scottish respondents disagreed with the rest of the UK, voting the 80 miles of unspoilt coastline in Ayrshire and Arran as the most beautiful, with 21 per cent of the vote. According to Scottish respondents, the second best beaches in the country can be found in the Outer Hebrides (12 per cent), with the Isle of Skye coming in third position with 10 per cent of the vote. Outside of Scotland, Cornwall was voted as having the most beautiful beaches in Britain overall, while Pembrokeshire - home to Britain’s only coastal national park - took the top spot in the Wales vote and second spot in the overall vote. Overall, 92 per cent of those polled said they were planning on making a trip to a UK beach this summer, with 34 per cent of these looking to take an extended break. Tom Lowes of Sykes Cottages said: “It’s clear from the results that UK residents living outside of Scotland need to get exploring. “We were surprised to see how many respondents didn’t know where to find the most beautiful beaches in Scotland and recommend all these people pack their suitcases immediately Regions with most beautiful beaches in Scotland, as voted for by the Scottish public: Ayrshire and Arran: 21 per cent Outer Hebrides: 12 per cent Isle of Skye: 10 per cent Orkney Islands: 10 per cent North Highlands: 9 per cent Shetland Islands: 8 per cent Scottish Borders: 7 per cent Dumfries and Galloway: 7 per cent Argyll and the Islands: 7 per cent Moray: 5 per cent Visit the Sykes Cottages website for a full breakdown of the results http://www.sykescottages.co.uk/blog/travel-tips/scotlands-best-beaches-18591
