Around town: Squaring up in Great Place title contest

THE best of St Andrew Square was showcased ahead of a crunch vote that could win it a prestigious national award.

Representatives of the city council gave a tour of the Georgian landmark to assessors from think-tank The Academy of Urbanism.

In May, the square was announced as one of three finalists for the title of Great Place of the Year at the annual Urbanism Awards, which recognise outstanding places whose design, feel and use contribute to a better quality of life.

Lawyers call for focus on family finance

CITY lawyer firm Gibson Kerr has warned many people risk leaving their affairs in jeopardy by not signing over sufficient Power of Attorney to their relatives.

The firm has said that people who appoint just one attorney or no-one risk leaving their families in a financial mess or with a costly court battle should they become incapacitated.

They have urged people to draw up the appropriate documents.

Green group sets AGM date

COMMUNITY environmental group Greener Leith is to hold its AGM next month.

The meeting will give an overview of what has been achieved over the year, and what is proposed for the coming year.

The AGM will take place on September 14 at 7.30pm in Leith Community Centre.
