Capital's two Marks beat 36-hour target in Trip to Remember

Adventurers Mark Beaumont and Mark Cooper have completed their challenge to cycle 50 miles, row 90 miles and hike 20 miles within 36 hours.

The Trip To Remember took the pair, as part of a 15-strong team, down the coast from Dublin to Arklow, before they rowed across the Irish Sea and trekked to the top of Mount Snowdon.

Also on the team was Edinburgh-based personal trainer Kyle Farningham. The group beat their target time, completing the challenge in 33 hours and 17 minutes. They were the first to row the Irish Sea in a surf boat and rowed the furthest ever covered in that type of boat.

They have raised more than 2100 for the Alzheimer's Society in tribute to the grandmother of organiser David Bedford. Eunice Bedford has suffered from the condition since 2001.

Mr Cooper said: "We reached the top of Snowdon in time to see the sun set over the Irish Sea and made it back to HQ in time for beers and a feed. It was a real honour to take part, given that I have no rowing experience.

"My plan was to learn to row as I went along, that's exactly how it panned out. By the end, I was keeping up with the experienced members of the team.

"Now that the dust has settled I am left feeling proud. I would like to say special thanks to David Bedford for organising the event and to Nate Fulcher and Margaret Bowling for leading it."
