Family flees winds damage

A FAMILY were forced to flee their flat in the top floor of block of flats in Perth yesterday, after part of the roof and gable end of the building collapsed in high winds.

A large section of the gable end, close to the roof of the building in Tay Street, collapsed in the middle of the night, burying a car parked in the street below under a pile of rubble.

A family, understood to be a young couple with a baby, who were living in the flat closest to the damaged wall, left their home to stay with relatives as structural engineers were called in to assess the damage.

And last night, the owners of the building, the Perthshire Housing Association, said another two families might also have to be temporarily rehoused while urgent repairs were carried out.
