Four arrested as thousands of fake DVDs are seized

THOUSANDS of fake DVDs were seized and four people arrested following a joint operation against counterfeiters.

Officers from Operation League and the Federation Against Copyright Theft (Fact) targeted an address in Grovepark Gardens, Glasgow, on Wednesday. Counterfeit DVDs with a value of more than 150,000 and disc burners capable of mass-producing illegal DVDs were recovered.

Three men, aged 35, 36 and 37, and a woman, 31, were arrested.

Detective Inspector Joe McLaughlin, from Operation League, said: "This is a significant seizure and will have a considerable impact on the illegal marketing of counterfeit goods. It sends a strong message to organised crime ."

Fact director general Kieron Sharp said: "Fact is pleased that the ongoing work with Operation League is continuing to produce some significant results and is succeeding in disrupting the manufacture, supply and sale of counterfeit DVDs across Scotland."

Led by Strathclyde Police, Operation League targets South-east Asian organised crime groups involved in illegal activity throughout Scotland.
