Health alert after hotel guests suffer gastric pains

HEALTH chiefs are investigating an outbreak of diarrhoea and vomiting at a Clydebank hotel.

The NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Public Health Protection Unit was called in after a number of guests reported feeling unwell at the Beardmore Hotel.

A total of 24 guests and three members of staff have displayed symptoms including diarrhoea and vomiting, although health experts say none are giving cause for concern as a result.

None of those affected stayed at the hotel overnight but were delegates at a conference which was held there earlier this week.

The three members of staff are at home and will remain off work until fully recovered.

Dr Eleanor Anderson, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde public health consultant, said: "We will continue our investigations to confirm the cause of the illness and will monitor the situation closely.

"Our advice to other guests in the hotel who are not symptomatic and to those who are due to check in or attend any functions is to follow strict hygiene rules such as regular hand washing.

"Staff at the hotel have been exemplary in their co-operation with us and we are grateful."
