Officers scouring CCTV film for the movements of Ms Pilley have found footage of her on North St David Street and just about to turn into Thistle Street, where she worked, at around 8:55am.

A black people carrier taxi is also seen emerging from Thistle Street in a newly discovered image. Officers have now traced both the driver and the passenger being dropped off.

Meanwhile, forensic experts are continuing to examine the 38-year-old's Stenhouse home, as well as her workplace, for possible clues.

Hundreds of people have now been spoken to by police as the hunt goes on for the bookkeeper who vanished 11 days ago.

Detective Chief Inspector, Gary Flannigan said: "This sighting is a significant step forward in the investigation as it places Suzanne 50 yards on from where she was previously sighted outside Sainsbury's at 8:51am. It further eliminates the possibility she may have walked on to George Street."

The footage is currently undergoing computer enhancement in a bid to provide clearer images for the inquiry team.

Police said the search had been focused on both her Stenhouse home and workplace at Infrastructure Managers Limited, but "any new areas that might emerge as being of interest as part of the inquiry will be searched accordingly".

It was reported today that police are investigating whether she may have been involved in a new relationship after breaking up with a boyfriend.

Checks have shown that Ms Pilley's bank cards remain unused since she was last seen.

Officers have also contacted bus companies operating in the area on the morning of her disappearance in an effort to determine whether she boarded any of their services.

Officers have admitted that Ms Pilley may have been the victim of "a criminal act".

DCI Flannigan added: "This kind of inquiry is very dependent on support from potential witnesses, and their willingness to engage with our officers.

"I would like to thank all those who have come forward and reassure then that their assistance is proving invaluable.

"In addition, I would also like to thank the media for their continued support in raising awareness of Suzanne's disappearance. Despite this progress, I would appeal for anyone who was in Thistle Street that Tuesday morning, and who may have seen Suzanne, to come forward.

"This was the first day back after the Bank Holiday Monday, so I'm asking anyone who was maybe going back to work in Thistle Street that morning to have another think, and try to remember if they saw the familiar figure of Suzanne."

Ms Pilley is described as white, 5ft 4in tall, of slim build and short, light brown hair shaped into a bob. She was wearing a light blue waterproof jacket, red fleece zipped to the neck, light blue trousers or jeans, and trainers.

She was also carrying a shoulder bag and a large water bottle when she was last seen. Anyone with information on her whereabouts should contact police on 0131-311 3131 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
