SCOTLAND’S shale resources are more “modest” than originally thought, according to the British Geological Survey report published yesterday.

The British Geological Survey estimates the Midland Valley has shale gas resources of 80 trillion cubic feet - considerably lower than the Bowland shale in northern England.

The report has been welcomed environmental groups, who warn that “fracking” could have an impact on global warming.
