Bridge benefits

Finance secretary John Swinney (your report, 11
September) says that we have £145 million “saved” from the original second Forth bridge estimate (already previously revised).

Let’s spend it on the A9 and A96 road dualling. There is much ado about spending
on the preliminary route
assessments but construction is what we want right now.

Budgetary considerations may lead to the dough being allocated for referendum
inducements, so expect £50m to be used to offset the stupid spare-room tax, but that still leaves enough for a mile or two.
