Neil McDonald (Letters, 22 June) asserts that cyclists are the only group not legally obliged to carry a unique identification number to allow them to be traced in the event of an incident. He appears to have omitted pedestrians as well. The number of pedestrians who step into the road without looking is staggering, actions easily capable of causing an “incident’. As a pedestrian, cyclist, bus passenger and driver, I have seen examples of poor roadcraft across the board. What is needed is better standards from all road users – everyone adhering to the Highway Code would be a good start.
