Two arrested over fatal shooting of boxer

TWO men have been arrested in connection with the alleged shooting of a Scottish boxer following a five-month police investigation.

Tony Wright died at Wishaw General Hospital after being gunned down on the driveway of his home in Shotts, North Lanarkshire, on 9 June.

The alleged shooting happened just yards from the council house he shared with partner Julie McEwan, 27, and three sons. The 35-year-old is also understood to have another son from a previous relationship.

Two men, aged 20 and 50, have been arrested in connection with his death and are presently detained in police custody. A report will be submitted with the Procurator Fiscal.

Detectives from Strathclyde Police said they had been met with a poor response from the public during the original investigation into the death of the amateur boxer, who had a number of previous convictions including assault.
