UP to a thousand members of the military carried out a pre-dawn royal wedding dress rehearsal today.

The full-scale walk through in preparation for Friday's big day involved the Army, Navy and RAF. Nothing was left to chance with the dry run, in which timings were tested to the second.

Students 'wouldn't have paid 9000 for courses'

MORE than half of students would not have gone to university if they had been forced to pay 9000 a year for their degrees, research suggests.

A third say they would have been turned off by fees of 6000, according to the survey by High Fliers Research.

The poll questioned 12,658 final-year UK students at 24 English universities, each of which are expected to charge the maximum 9000 for courses from 2012.

Race over for tickets

THE deadline to apply for tickets for the London 2012 Olympics expired early today after organisers extended it following a last-minute surge in demand.

Problems struck the website for about 20 minutes from 10.30pm yesterday, as the clock ticked down to the 11.59pm deadline for the 6.6 million tickets.

London 2012 said the deadline was extended to 1am.

Devidas Paliutis was being held on charges including rape when he was released by mistake from Maghaberry prison last October. Detectives want to question him about the death of a Ukrainian man in Co Down last weekend.

Coventry: A 15-year-old girl was arrested after officers found tens of thousands of pounds worth of heroin in a pillow case, police said. The 1.8-kilo stash, sent from Pakistan, was intercepted by UK Border Agency officers at a parcel distribution depot.
