Young Sikhs compete in headgear tying challenge
Young Indian Sikhs wait for the judging of a turban-tying competition at a school in Amritsar yesterday.
The competition was organised by the Sikh organisation Akal Purakh Ki Fauj to promote greater awareness of the turban. The turban has been closely associated with Sikhism for more than 300 years and the dastaar, as the Sikh turban is commonly known, is an article of faith. It is seen as a commitment to the principles of justice and equality. The group also promotes World Turban Day every April.
