Currie 46 - 7 Heriot's: Currie keep in title race with help of a Fife flyer

Currie winger Dougie Fife will head to France later this week as part of the Club International squad with a spring in his step after bagging a hat-trick in this one-sided match with Heriot's on Saturday.

The Malleny Park men were dominant from the first minute and chalked up a victory to keep themselves in the title race with four Premier A matches remaining.

And in Fife and fellow youngster Matthew Scott they have players who are in form at just the right time with their Club International debuts now just five days away in Orleans.

The two 20-year-olds oozed class on Saturday in difficult conditions, Fife showing the finishing skills that earned him Scotland Sevens caps earlier this term and Scott making a number of incisive breaks through the bedraggled Heriot's midfield.

However, the young duo would be the first to admit that it was the hard work of their pack that set up Currie's win, battering Heriot's into submission with the kind of power we have come to expect from the front eight at Malleny Park over the last few years. Currie had built up a 10-0 lead early on, but had to wait until the 33rd minute for their second try.

It came from No 8 Ross Weston and when winger Andrew Turnbull added a third just before the break Heriot's heads began to go down.

Four tries came for Currie in the second 40 minutes, with a 40-metre run to the line by Scott the pick of them, while Heriot's only score of the day came via a converted try by former Dundee HSFP man Cameron Ferguson.

On this form reigning champions Currie will most certainly have a say in where the title ends up this year and, in Ryan Wilson and Mike Entwhistle, they have two of the most underrated forwards in the top flight. Heriot's captain Graham Wilson never gave up, but his team were well under par and will have to regroup after this one.
