STEPHEN Gallacher is facing a race against time to be fit for today’s opening round of the BMW PGA Championship after being hit with an untimely bout of tendonitis in his left wrist.

“It just came on in the last few days,” said the Scottish No 1 after being forced to pull out of the Pro-Am on the eve of the European Tour’s flagship event at Wentworth.

Before getting a cortisone injection, Gallacher rated his chances of playing as “90-10” but was hoping the jag would work sufficiently overnight to let him tee up in an event in which he’s recorded two top-fives over the past five years.

Padraig Harrington was also waiting to see if he could play after picking up a shoulder injury that also knocked him out of the Pro-Am.
