Lynsey Sharp disqualified then reinstated on night of drama
Sharp finished fourth in her semi-final and was waiting for the final race to see if her time would be good enough to secure a fastest losers’ spot.
However, she learned she had been disqualified for making contact (pictured) with American runner Charlene Lipsey at the finish line before the realisation that her time would have been good enough to get through. British Athletics appealed against the disqualification and, just under two hours later, that was upheld by the IAAF.
Scotland’s Chris O’Hare qualified well for the men’s 1,500m final, also tomorrow night, but Jake Wightman missed out.
