McGhee wary of false dawn for Dons as he targets Raith

MARK McGHEE will not read too much into Saturday's remarkable fightback against Celtic in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

The Aberdeen boss has had a battle to find consistency this season but recent signs are encouraging.

After coming from behind to grab a last-gasp draw away to Raith Rovers in their Active Nation Scottish Cup fifth-round tie at Stark's Park, McGhee's side grabbed a creditable point at Hibs in the SPL.

However, their performance in coming from behind three times to draw 4-4 at home with Celtic on Saturday was the best of the bunch and set them up for the replay against the Fifers at Pittodrie tonight.

McGhee, though, is wary of another false dawn.

"After the Dundee United and Hearts games in January I thought it was happening for us so I won't get ahead of myself," he said.

"If we play eight or ten games and produce the same sort of performance then I will start to think (the team has found consistency] but at the moment I will take nothing for granted.

"I'm going to be in the dressing room before the Raith game to do the best that I can to demand that same sort of performance.

"But I do think they have the bit between their teeth so I think they will start well."

Raith would be looking forward to a quarter-final clash with fellow Irn-Bru First Division side Dundee if Aberdeen had not scored a 95th-minute goal at Stark's Park to earn the replay.

McGhee, aware of the importance of a good cup run for the Pittodrie club, reiterated his belief that the game against Raith was more important than the visit of Celtic.

He said: "There may come games that take on a greater importance, whether they be further on in the cup or in getting into the top six or possibly getting a top four finish, or whatever.

"But so far this game against Raith is the most important, more than Saturday just past, regardless of what anybody else thinks.

"There is an incentive for us to get through to play Dundee and that has to be our focus."
