Rugby: Boroughmuir through on SRU ruling

BOROUGHMUIR will play Cartha QP in the first round of rugby's Scottish Cup next Tuesday after their preliminary round opponents Kirkcaldy were thrown out of the competition.

But the Fifers plan to appeal after the SRU championship committee ruled they broke the rules by failing to play the much-postponed tie against 'Muir.

The game was put off again on Tuesday after the game was switched to Edinburgh and the ref passed the pitch at Meggetland playable but the Kirkcaldy coach and players disagreed.

The Fifers then refused to play on an all-weather pitch at Murrayfield the following day, saying they could not raise a side at such short notice.

Kirkcaldy president Don Burns said: "We will be holding urgent meetings to decide what to do next but it is very likely that we will appeal."
